Texas and Coma Imprisonment
The state of Texas has abolished capital punishment due to the fact that it cannot execute prisoners without prison staff falling into the Coma Imprisonment.

FEBRUARY 15, 2027 · BY MATTHEW MCBRIDE

Yesterday, Texas became the last state to abolish capital punishment. The newly elected Governor Rockwell Staite signed Bill 221 into law yesterday, making capital punishment in Texas a thing of the past.

Governor Staite is a long-time proponent of capital punishment. His reversal is a significant change in his stance on this issue. He stated that his change in view is due to his concern for prison staff who would normally carry out executions.

“We couldn’t execute people if we tried,” Governor Staite said at yesterday’s press conference in Austin. “I could not in good conscience ask our prison staff to execute anyone. They would immediately fall into the Coma if they did.”

There are an estimated 32 prison staff who have participated in executions who are now in the Coma.

“Coma Care” Costs Under Fire

“Now this farce that is the Federal Coma Care plan, that needs to go away,” the Governor also said.

Governor Staite was referring to President Sheridan Kelly’s recent executive orders to decrease the costs of long-term care for Coma patients. Now that capital punishment is illegal across the U.S., the focus will be on how resources are used to keep Coma patients alive.

The Federal government massively subsidizes Coma Care. Conservative groups are furiously lobbying against the government funding of Coma Care. They argue that the American taxpayer should not have to pay huge sums of money to keep murderers alive.

Since President Kelly’s executive orders, Coma Care costs $2,000 per day per Coma patient. This works out to a projected estimate of $1.7 billion per year to care for the nation’s 766,000 Coma patients. This is on par with the annual budget for the U.S. military.
