Update on “Coma Resistance” and “Revolutions”

Hi everyone,

It has been a fascinating experiment for me to write Coma Imprisonment: Revolutions. So far, we have seen the sudden onslaught of the Coma Imprisonment phenomenon through the eyes of several characters:

  • Sheridan Kelly, the erstwhile Secretary of Education, pressured into taking on the U.S. Presidency after the Line of Succession above her succumbed to the Coma.
  • Matthew McBride, the hard-living journalist who cracked the code of why the Coma Imprisonment was happening, and discovers an anomaly that can only be explained by an unthinkable conclusion.
  • Marius Johannsen, the Danish physician scientist chosen to lead the International Coma Imprisonment Consortium.

I have a journey plotted out for Revolutions that should take us to around the same time as the conclusion of the novel Coma Imprisonment. At the same time, I feel like I need to re-evaluate where I should be focusing my writing these days…

Recently, I have been thinking a lot about Coma Resistance, the follow-up novel to Coma Imprisonment. Readers of Coma Imprisonment know that the novel ends with a total 180° of how everyone thought the Coma actually worked. Everything that the characters have learned up to that time gets thrown upside down. Several questions erupt over how the ending could have happened the way it did.

Coma Resistance will answer most of these questions. It will be both a sidequel and sequel. It will explore the experiences of John Crow, the mysterious character introduced at the end of Coma Imprisonment, from 8/8 throughout the timeline of Coma Imprisonment. We will also re-visit Dr. Brian Lee and his friends as they try to process and catch up with the devastating new information that they have learned. The consequences of the events covered in Coma Resistance will dangerously upset the power balance of the world’s most powerful nations, setting the stage for the third novel in the series.

At this point, I realized that Revolutions needs to take a backseat to the development of Coma Resistance. The story of Revolutions is beginning to intersect with that of the novel Coma Resistance. I will therefore be suspending my writing of Revolutions to focus on writing Coma Resistance, at least until the first draft is done. Revolutions has been a joy to write, but I feel like I need to get a move on with Coma Resistance for the whole series to move forwards.

By the way, this is the first installment of my Coma Imprisonment blog–I’ll be posting my progress on the novel-writing as well as other random stuff going on with the world-building.

I hope you can continue to join me on the journey to explain the greatest mystery to ever befall humanity…

Your friend,

-Anthony Kim
